This educational video on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder treatment addresses the enormous problem of trauma and trauma resolution. Trauma has always been with us, but has been on the rise in recent years. The tragedy of the Columbine shootings, and the World Trade Center Twin Towers in New York on 9/11, are only two examples in the United States. As terrorism continues to grow it becomes imperative to truly understand the intricacies of this mental health disorder. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has been known by many names in the past. Soldier’s Heart ( Civil War ), Shell Shock, Battle Fatigue, Gulf War Syndrome are but a few. In essence Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is delayed grieving due to an overwhelming trauma or stress. It can also be caused by numerous less severe traumas experienced over time. Statistics regarding this illness indicate that approximately 7%-8% of people in the United States will likely develop PTSD in their lifetime, with the lifetime occurrence in combat veterans and rape victims ranging from 10% to as high as 30%. New treatment modalities have been discovered in the past 20 years that help to relieve PTSD quickly and with much less painful emotion than more conventional therapies. This educational DVD presents all of these new treatments. Jef Gazley, M.S., LMFT, the author and presenter of this didactic DVD, has over forty years of experience in both teaching and treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. He presents many of the newer and most powerful techniques in the treatment of trauma and discusses the biochemical impediments in the brain that have frustrated past approaches.
